Thanks guys and much appreciated.
I didn't just abandon the Portal nor did I stop collecting music.

The year 2012 was meant to be the end of the world and as it got nearer with no world ending signs the Mayan calendar was reinterpreted as the end of a cycle and beginning of another...

While not superstitious, that's what happened to me.

I lost my wife in Nov 2012 due to some stupid medical events.
She booked a routine spinal surgery with 3-4 days in hospital.
The Neurosurgeon and other "Specialists" screwed up and 2 weeks later she was dead.
And just like in movies, it was me who had to decide in tears at 2am to switch off the life support as she would have gone after another 2-3 hours regardless.
It was something we discussed often should something happen to any of us.

And all of this just to get rid of chronic headaches for the 2012 Christmas, headaches she managed for 2 years with pain killers.

For the first time in my life I found myself disoriented in deep shock and total disbelief.

While a lot of legal stuff is under way, I felt strong enough for a comeback.
That's what happened.

Thank you for your openness

I think I speak on behalf of everybody here when I say that we are speechless and shocked to read this. For a long time I was wondering what could have happened to explain the absence of one of our most active and respected fellow members. It was clear to me that there must have been a good reason explaining the missing of your sharp analyses but this is the worst case scenario that could come out of it and for most of us hard to imagine what this can do with you. I sincerely hope you will be able to catch up and find the balance again to continue collecting music, sharing your thoughts and most of all finding the joy of life. If there is something we can do to help you please let us know. We have missed your presence and are very happy to have you 'back' dear Dan!

Thanks a lot Koos for the warm thoughts,
I hope to get some legal closures this coming year which took a toll to get under way at the worst time in life too.
I also hope to adapt to reality and then it will be just a personal matter inside my persona.
I know these things happen all the time but till experienced it is hard to fathom such a final loss.
I'll hang around here and while i may have mellowed a bit I am looking forward to any intelligent debates Very Happy

Yes, indeed. Thank You, Koos.

As I struggle for suitable words, all that comes up in my mind
seems to fail to do Your loss and the tragedy of what happened justice, Dan.

Therefore, I'd just like to suscribe to what Koos wrote (he put that very well).

My thoughts are with you, Dan.
I wish you strenght, and I hope You receive a lot of support from people that are close to You.

Thanks Michael,
We were a "minimal" family, my daughter "Ashra" yeah, you know where that name came from, and my 85 year old mother in law.
Then 4 dogs and 2 cats, and if I don't fill the fridge everyone goes hungry...
I'll adapt and this will be the year of justice with all the law suits in preparation but I'll still be alone.
So thanks again and let's get into the forum topics, seems a bit quiet Laughing

Thanks Steve, these things are like Love, there is no book that works for such things, it happens and everyone's life circumstances dictate a path while the soul and mind are somewhere else.
Been enjoying sampling your Winter Solstice on and off, but I'll set a time next weekend to give it a proper roll as it's intriguing my ears Very Happy
I am short listing a "belated" 10 best of 2013 and feel it in there, only wish others would give it a go, I'll be back with my humble opinion...

Many thanks too,
music helps. It's been my "other" love for some 40 years now, just some of it I find difficult to listen to as it brings back memories.
