both are allegedly being re-issued, though the 'Son Of 4 Voice' is apparently not going to have a keyboard

Funny thing is that as soon as something is reissued people lose interest in both the original and the new...
Do you know who would be making them?

As much as I used to lust after a Four Voice (and I was very close to getting one several times), I think Id rather go for two of the modular patch-panel versions of the new SEM these days. An original Four Voice would be terribly hard to modify -- I would love to have it modified the way Michael Hoenig had his FVS modded by Jim Cooper with multiple CV/Gate ins and outs --, and it would be a shame to ruin a classic artefact by modding it.

Tom Oberheim himself got the re-issue ball rolling. I played one of those new SEMs (and compared it side-by-side with an original one), and I would have a hard time telling them apart in a blindfolded test.

Even though the Two Voice is essentially the same thing technically, I think the Four Voice is a much better buy. The TVS has a built-in sequencer which is quite nice because the entire unit feels quite self-contained, but it doesnt justify the extra money. If money was of no issue, Id replace the programmer section of the Four Voice with a Niessen SAM-16 sequencer in a Dr. Walker / Air Liquide fashion.

Great-sounding synthesiser, though (think of "As falls Wichita, so falls Wichita Falls" by Metheny/Mays).

The 4voice went to the single bidder for US $5,749.99.
The 2voice didn't and got re listed.

The price for the FVS was quite steep, but so are prices for anything analogue these days.

Not sure if Id still pay that much for one, though.

Tom Oberheim sells the new zero keyboard model for US$3495, I doubt there will be much interest.

...and Arturia are releasing this mid December for US $249.
A unique situation with new hardware and software emulations of roughly, the same instrument...

There is plenty of interest but the design is a bit, erm, awkward, to say the least. Id have added a dedicated keboard controller, some MIDI implementation, and a mixer/attenuator panel to the left of the keyboard instead of the programmer (which is quite useless anyway). This and the new batch of modularized SEM modules would have made for a marvellous synthesiser.

Yeah, but the bottom line is you won't buy it.
Someone else will take exception to other things and won't buy it...
Just shows how difficult is to reincarnate a classic with the inevitable temptation of bringing at least something more "up to date" and accentuated by the high price of low volume-hand built manufacturing.
Arturia had to do it too, there is a very colourful fold out panel at the top for extra sound manipulation.

With the original the options were fewer, take it or leave it Laughing

You can also download the free Or2v vst by Elektrostudio. It is a great emulation of the Oberheim Two Voice. Some time ago I made a demo of it:
