Went last friday to see Opeth for the 5th time. Probably the best sound I have ever experienced at a gig/concert, absolutely crystal. Michael Akerfelt seems determined to shed all death metal aspect, alas no viscious vocals, and continue into the 70's. Hell there was even a 20 minute acoustic guitar section, bizaare. Confused Altho' a great show, with an amazing lightshow I felt the very devoted sell out crowd of, at a guess 1500-2000, had their patience tested a tad. Even a poxey 15 minute drun solo ffs!. Highlights were closure from Damnation, hex omega from watershed and a fair judgement from deliverance.

Thanks for the report. Although I love the death metal element in Opeth, I think they have taken the right path with Heritage, which is one of the best albums of 2011. There's still the death metal side project Bloodbath, for those who can't get enough of Mikael's grunts, blast beats and brutal riffing.

I'm going to 013 to see them tomorrow, looking forward to it.

Ready for them to beat Steven Wilson as show of the year but they will have to be brilliant then! Smile

Indeed Pertou, Bloodbath will give Akerfeld all the grunting he still feels the need to do.
Looking forward to the album with Wilson and the road Opeth will take from here.

I love Heritage, like Akerfeld I am getting bored by death metal a bit, nothing new happening there really so it's great one of my favorite bands is feeling the same thing Smile

there's someone in my head
but it's not me
