I listened to Nightlife and it's what I expected: dark and grim. In that respect the cover is an excellent match. But not my cup o' tea.

Audio sample is cool, Emmens' albums are varied and likely to contain something interesting Laughing

The cover art is an intriguing post apocalyptic Moscow, backdrop scenes from Bruce Willis' 12 Monkeys spring to mind.

Actually I'd say that artwork and album story has a strange context in the light of current events. What does Groove guys think they're doing? A political release? Are they in their minds?
I'm as a Moscow citizen want to hear, what that "suffering in different aspects" have to do with that artwork?

By the way the original image is made by Vladimir Manyuhin: https://img-fotki.yandex.ru/get/4309/yes06.103/0_26ac1_c74dcf3f_orig
You can easily find any sizes in the internet. Is author of artwork aware of this release? What's that kitten added for?

Provocation or ignorance?

Mike, I'd like to think this forum to be the last place for political correctness and sensitivities taken to extremes.

Vladimir Manyuhin specialises in post apocalyptic images, his work covers many world cities, monuments and landmark places going back to 1982, did he have a message in mind or is it just fascination with a new start like in the Planet of the Apes.

An albums' artwork is usually selected in advance and impractical to change to match the days' events.

Would be funny if New Yorkers started banning the Escape from New York film poster based on daily politics Laughing

No provocation, no ignorance, just nice original Russian art for an album cover, what I am curious about is the music and how the artwork connects with it, if at all.

I have absolutely no claims to author of image, because it was done independently of any obvious context. Here we see some context (story of album) and corresponding image (used without permission, pretty sure). It is modified with that kitten in bottom-right corner and original author's signature removed. I'm just curious to know, what this is all about without jumping to exact conclusions. I don't have this album on CD and can't check if author is mentioned on artwork.

I don't have it yet either but I'll order it in the next batch from Groove very soon and would be surprised if the album's theme was a Prophecy.

Then even if it was, it may have been inspired by the original art.

I wouldn't read much into it but will you buy the album to see what's it about or is it offensive enough to boycott it, in which case it may remain a mystery Razz

As for artwork rights you know how it goes, want something safe then don't broadcast it on the net.

Lets get the music and chat about that.

Today's factory releases are so badly designed (this one) that I doubt that they deserve to be collected for that money they ask. I can make such artwork myself, this is not a professional product. They have a professional photographer Pablo Magne and designer Robert Marselje, who made nice designs earlier. Why not ask them? They can do better and unique.

When you do something and it it generates polemic on the net, you get exposure. Good taste, bad taste, this will be the most popular Gert Emmens release for sure.

Dark and grim?

Grim: having a harsh, surly, forbidding, or morbid air.
