Time is not so much of an issue... But to keep the size reasonable, we prefer 128Kbps CBR or comparable VBR.

No prob...
CBR = Constant Bit Rate. So fixed to e.g. 128Kbps.
VBR = Variable Bitrate, for which you can usually set some base rate.
As you can see, I'm not an expert either. The main thing is to make sure the file doesn't get too big.
