^^ Now of them really impressed me. Then again.. I'm not a big fan of soundtracks (as a whole).

Soundtrack releases are more complex than an album as it involves the film studio/director who's primary objective is the film with everything else in a supporting role.
The film dictates the album title and often the artwork, sometimes the musical content would be owned by the film studio as well.

In many cases the film studio already had some affiliation with a specialized OST label, even their own at times while the artist was under contract with a music label, these usually resulted in limited runs till the movie was forgotten...
From our listening seats this appears nonsense but it has caused a lot of dramas over the years with film music.

The OST concept was intended for a short life span with the odd exception when a "classic" just won't go away.

As for TD and soundtracks I always found it a poor match, especially knowing that money was the main reason TD (EF) did them for.

I judge this in a film/music context not music alone or rarity of it, my choice would be Legend with the best image - music match, everything else seems to made from random tracks.

The music from the Soldier would have been excellent but was not released.

Because the movies were box office flops. Flashpoint LP still gets play
time with me. I found Firestarter and Near Dark in a dollar bin at Wal*Mart.... Surprised

and perhaps closer to the topic, none of these were limited releases, they were everywhere when released 20 odd years ago but now there is no demand anymore.

Sorcerer for shure for me, too (the first TD album I ever owned, by the way...).

Like Legend, too - but that's maybe due to the fact that I like Ridley Scott and fantasy movies...

P.S. There were two versions of that movie with different soundtracks, if I recall it correctly, and if I recall it even more correctly, I prefer the orchestral soundtrack (by Jerry Goldsmith - so if You're shooting Sparrow, shoot me as well, please... Twisted Evil )

My favorites are still THIEF & SORCERER, but FIRESTARTER is good also (even if the recording sounds a bit thin). SHY PEOPLE & 3 O'CLOCK HIGH are pretty atrocious releases with maybe one or two good moments. But there are even worse soundtrack recordings out there (THE PARK IS MINE, mainly due to the source tapes) and others like CATCH ME IF YOU CAN and DEAD SOLID PERFECT where EF and the boys didn't even try to make a quality release. I think these clunkers were instrumental in beginning my dissatisfaction with the later TD music.

I recall a KS interview which confirms why the TD soundtrack era as a quick money making opportunity, nothing wrong with that, we'd all do it.
It went something like this:
EF:
You meet people, go to dinner, sometimes something comes out of it sometimes not.
KS:
I'm happy where I am, you keep America, I stick with Europe.
I think it was on the web I found it, and this was just a part of it with the rest about KS.
