"It's with profound sadness that we have to inform you that Mick finally lost his battle with cancer
and passed away peacefully at 4.30pm, 4th January 2011 at home in Chelsea, London.
He was surrounded by his family and friends and will be deeply missed by all."

Gonna spin up some Japan right now in honor of Mr. Karn. Never a big fan of his post-Japan career, but there was no doubt that the man had talent.

That's really sad news... RIP Mick, and strength to his family and friends...

A very talented musician. His post-Japan stuff could be an acquired taste, but it was always inventive and exciting. He developed a unique style that can be recognized instantly.

Recommended listening for those who want to salute him:

Everything by Japan (but especially Oil On Canvas) and Rain Tree Crow
Dreams Of Reason Produce Monsters (solo album )
His work with former Japan colleagues Steve Jansen and Richard Barbieri (JBK - Ism and Jansen/Barbieri - Stories Across Borders)
Liquid Glass (with Yoshihiro Hanno - excellent D'nB-light stuff)
Dali's Car (a sublime but relatively unknown collaboration with Bauhaus' Peter Murphy)
