 AD Music officially announce the line up for the 2011 Derby electronic music festival on Saturday 28th May 2011 as:
14:00 Air Sculpture
15:15 John Dyson & Friends
19:30 Callisto
20:15 Code Indigo
Tickets will be ÂŁ35 each and available soon from the AD Music website.

The planned AD Music 2011 Electronic music festival in Derby has been cancelled. The UK inde label has cited the reasons as “Financial” and states that it no longer believes there to be sufficient interest in the UK to make such medium sized events viable. While it accepts there is a small dedicated core of em fans around the UK and that smaller events are still worthwhile, the cost of even a 300 seater venue with the numerous associated hidden costs, and so few fans now attending, makes promoting these events unrealistic.
The previous event in 2009 featured Ian Boddy, Klaus Hoffmann-Hoock, David Wright, Code Indigo and Ron Boots. And yet while these are established musicians in the genre with impressive CD sales and large fan bases, the event attracted just 120 paying customers.
Despite a proposed line up of John Dyson and Friends, Air Sculpture, Code Indigo and Callisto for 2011, the initial response has been luke warm, with more responses complaining about the ÂŁ35 ticket price than the event itself.
It is also worth noting that the proposed weekend was also a bank holiday weekend, which in itself may have lead to people staying away.
Taking all these factors into consideration, David and Elaine Wright felt that it was time to end AD Music’s involvement in these events.
AD Music will happily help support events like The hampshire Jam and The Awakening Series in any way it can, while David Wright is already looking at possible smaller solo concerts in the UK and Ireland for 2011.

It is a pity, but....No problem with us here Dave and Elaine....we well understand the situation having been in the same boat ourselves (more than once!). Your health and 'well-being' is far more important these days!
I think it is simply a lack of 'airplay' here in the UK...we of course no longer have the brilliant Ashley Franklin at the BBC (Derby) to 'promote' the artistes ( and music) as in the past.
The 'price' should be understood by all who planned or thought about going to the event; the costs these days are horrendous for the hire of venue/PA/lighting etc etc, never mind about any compensation for the actual performers themselves...! For those who don't believe it...try phoning a couple of your local venues of the same ilk as Derby/Sheffield theatres etc and see what they say!!!!
Maybe it is the same 'syndome' as I mentioned before re the 'net' etc....everyone wants the music/performance etc for nothing as most info on the net is free.....but, we read that certain 'artistes' are giving away their albums 'free' with newspapers, and then getting 'good' to 'sold-out' gigs on their 'tour'...well, that's fine if you have the capability and 'support' (tech etc etc as they do) to do a 'tour' to make up the money....but that doesn't apply to most of the EM acts does it? So where does that leave all our 'independent' musicians...??? (Esp the 'older end' like me/us..:O)
It'll die if we don't get the support....from anyone or anywhere....and that would be a great shame for all concerned.

The airplay EM gets around the world is once again negligible.
The younger generations rarely get to hear EM.
This is where Jarre an Vangelis hits in the charts helped, made people curious even if they did not like that music.
I mentioned this before, but there are no EM musicians on "big" labels anymore (Jarre is the only exception, and I am not convinced Vangelis still has a contract, even if he did it's irrelevant with no releases)
There is nothing leading anymore in any direction.
In a 30 year cycle, the EM scene has imploded, sunk underground where it rose from.
Quite ironic when most of today's music is created electronically.

hi folks,
you are right, the way to do events like this is mostly unsuccesful. I´ve got several positv experiences with planning and realize concerts with "culture institutions" like city goverments or museums. All of them want to make things like Conerts etc but you have to think about a concept with a lasting arguments. then it could happened to get more than the known visitors.
Forget to highlight the music, you have to make something that combined a good location, with a interesting visuality and good music. the people want to have "events"...

Stefan, you´re right.
"Events" are the spirit of the age. The good old festival is a relic of a "good old time". I can understand FSP, when they say "no" to another concert at a festival. The better way are "events" you´ve described.

Fully empathise with AD music. You don't put on an EM concert/festival/event/whatever you want to call it in the UK nowadays for profit. It's a financial risk and the best you can expect is to break even.
The "Derby Days" were great and the impact of Ashley Franklin's show and how it has resonated for so long after it stopped is testament to the power of such a publicity platform.

i have no idea how the "culture institutions" work in UK and if they are interested for crossover projects like the ones we did in germany. But i think that combinations with EM and other occasions like Space Themes, Lasershows or big video wallprojection are not only typical german interests.
watch out for theaters, reccurent culture events, museums, city and mall culture projects and stuff like this and offer an event where also non "EM-Fans" are interested too.
A good example for those is the Planetarium in Bochum. Perfect location for electronic music. no risk for the musicians cause the benefit will be split.
Make those events, where the inventor will be pay the costs for technic etc.
