I have been on a wonderful journey discovering classical piano music for over a year now (also playing myself a bit) and I've become really passionate about it. Thanks to youtube I got to know some great recordings. Here are just a few favorites:

Chopin - Ballade No. 4 (Zimerman)

Scriabin - Etude Op. 2 No. 1 (Horowitz)

Scriabin - Etude Op. 8 No. 12 (Horowitz)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RWqZRu-lyZg&fmt=18

Rachmaninov - Prelude Op. 32 No. 10 (Richter)

If you're looking for something different to listen to, you should give this a chance. Smile

You might also consider checking out Private Music's cd "Piano One" with some very well executed tracks by e.g. Yanni.....

Yes, Winston is nice. Or some of Suzanne Ciani's works. Or, from the movies, Michael Nyman's "The Piano", which contains really nice Piano tracks.

I know I'm going to be killed after saying this, but try:

- Yanni - "In my Time"
- David Lanz - "Nightfall"
- Kostia - "Suite St. Petersburg"

(I'm going to look for shelter Razz)

the piano works of David Lanz are recommended and very well executed, so I can't think of a reason why anyone should hide after mentioning his name and music.
Also have a listen to the OST of "The Pianist", which contains only classic piano pieces by e.g. Chopin.

No reason for hiding. In My Time includes some great tracks, like the very melancholic One Man's Dream.

On the "old" forum I posted some polite words about Yanni's music and and I truly had to hide (I think some people tend to confuse music with private life).

Returning to the original topic, I also like Michael Jones' "Seascapes".

Funny. Yanni has done some nice music. It's just a matter of how broad your taste is, I guess. Smile

If I could go back in time, I would love to see the great Thelonious Monk at a small Jazz club in New York city.

Well, the "old" forum was not as open-minded as this one, IMO.

A neighbour was clearing out her mother's house when she went into care. She offered us an upright piano for free. We took it, as daughter #1 was taking piano lessons at the time (and doing her exercises at home on a Nord Modular - I kid you not !).

Anyhow, it's a fairly ordinary upright, and it was a bit out-of-tune and a couple of keys didn't work. So I got a local piano tuner/maintainer to give it the once-over and also bought a tuning hammer from him. I really love playing it (though tuning will always be a pain in the butt Mad ) and now daughter #2 has taken up piano lessons and is really enthusiastic about it - she'll be sitting her Grade 1 test soon.

While I do love it, I'd swap it in an instant for a good digital piano with weighted keys. One reason is that you can turn the bloody volume down !

Laughing
