September 1st, 2010

presenting # 232 :

MOOCH > Train Klang (excerpt)

from the brand new album "Train Klang" (release date: September 21st, 2010)

"Train Klang" is a single 71 minute track featuring Steve Palmer on keyboards, guitar and bass ably supported by Nick Toone (monochord, gliss guitar), Dave Dilliway (audio generator) and Erich Z. Schlagzeug (drums). The music is knitted together by the eerie sounds of Dave's audio generator, reminiscent in places of Hawkwind's DikMik, which run through most of the work. Various train and railway sounds augment this foundation, evoking a strange European landscape perhaps of the early 1970's. Nick Toone's cosmic gliss guitar and monochord expand the work, and there are mood-altering inserts from a drums/bass combination, primitive organ and mellotron, and a central section of multiply echoed electric guitars. It makes for a haunting trip that will find fans amongst those enamoured of the very early Tangerine Dream and Klaus Schulze albums, and those into the more abstract side of Mooch: a kind of new kosmische musik.

November 18th, 2010

presenting # 234:

Ian Boddy > Sequence in Blue

from the brand new album "Pearl" (release date: November 9th, 2010)

"Sequence in Blue. This is the original version of this track which was commissioned by the label Just Create Records in 1995 for the compilation Ambient Northern Lights. This is probably the closest I've ever got to trance/dance music and later that year with the addition of some over-dubs it also came out on my album Symbiont with Andy Pickford. In hindsight though I think I prefer the simplicity of this more stripped down version and it was later reissued on my Rare Elements 2CD compilation set from 1997."

June 19th, 2011

presenting # 237:

The Golden Cake Company > A warm Bath of Electronics

first track of the new electronic album by The Golden Cake Company

The Golden Cake Company is a group of improvising musicians based in the Welsh Marches area of Britain.

The core membership is Simon Lewis (Phoenix Cube), Steve Palmer (Mooch) and Geoff Puplett, who primarily plays guitar, but also synths. The group use mostly old, analogue synthesizers to create the basis of their ambient sound: a Korg MS20, a Yamaha CS-30 and a Sequential Pro-One. Geoff’s guitar is put through a maze of vintage effects pedals.

Music created by The Golden Cake Company, autumn 2010 at Geoff’s place. Analogue synths: Korg MS20, Yamaha CS-30, Sequential Pro-1. Geoff’s guitars put through vintage FX. Produced, mixed & mastered by Steve Palmer at the Studio-by-the-Stream, May 2011.
