I used to be an avid cycling enthusiast with some minor ambitions until the age of 20.

Today I

I used to love Cycling. I even tried to join a cycling club years ago. But was told I'd have to buy a decent bike. I haven't been on a bike for 12 years now and I sometimes think it would be great to at least have a go.

I used to do loads of off road mountain biking (but not on actual mountains Very Happy ) as we have some great wildlife parks where I live with some quite hairy parts and very muddy river banks.

Unfortunately a few years ago I badly damaged my left knee at work and now only occasionally go riding due to the fact that it hurts like hell to cycle off road now.

The bad thing about cycling in The Netherlands is, the wind

Guess what? +1 Cool

A passion? well, am I riding more and more? mmhh....
2400 km in 2002
4250 km in 2003
5400 km in 2004
6000 km in 2005
6800 km in 2006
6700 km in 2007. Should have ridden more though, because I've been injuried early december in the most serious crash I've ever had: I was on the main road, imagine, a cross-road, a car... instead of stopping and taking care, the driver (yes, a lady...) didn't look and litterally sped up behind me(!) Evil or Very Mad eventually hitting my right hip and leg... ouch! Sad I went down, bike half-broken, the guilty car finishing several meters ahead outside the road. A witness called the pompiers (= firefighters, they do all kind of rescue, thanks to them!). Hospital. I feared but... actually nothing broken... At home 3 hours later... but it was for about ten days of pain (couldn't sleep well, couldn't walk *ouch!* properly without help...). Fortunately I recover well, and around Christmas I even managed to ride 2x 50 km (at good pace on flat routes) on my repaired bike without problem. Rolling Eyes ffff....

99 km? No thanks, not the right season for me.

In early winter, 50/60 km is enough for me...
Longer and frequent trips (80/90 km and more) are for the nice season only (april-october) when I'm in top shape. Wink
