Do you have a link to that Cretu-story?
Not really as it's a a while now, about his destroyed new villa I did post something here but can't find the thread and that was from a search anyway, just search for Michael Cretu villa ibiza and stuff turns up.
The tabloid stuff never interested me, I followed the story at the time as his new studio was said to be the best in the world.
His new modest/mobile studio was discussed a bit here:

Thanks for the link. I never check that part of the forum, as I'm not really into the equipment/technical side of things, and I'm not a musician. So I'm sure I miss some interesting things once in a while.

the cd is just in and i realy like it.
In the booklet there is a part of a Edgar Froese interview, telling about not liking the commercial parts of the original Legend Ost with songs of Brian Ferry and Jon Andersson and that they only had 2 months to finish te soundtrack.
In this release most of the synthesizer music is replaced with classical instruments, wich i realy like.
does anybody else have this album? do you like it or not ? and why?

Personally, I really like the songs by Ferry and Anderson. And two months isn't really that little time. Three weeks had been another thing.

I see no reason to buy a TD cover just as I was wondering why anyone would do one
But to me Legend is the best OST TD ever did, the msuic was more sophisticated, more like proper compositions than run of the mill sequencer OST's and worked well with the movie.
I am also puzzled by FE's dislike of the Jon Anderson track which is great and would have easily passed as a Jon & Vangelis track, but if he did not like it why did he do it?
The Brian Ferry was just a simple passable pop song for rolling credits, and again, what is the problem with it, Risky Business had even more VA than TD and I can't remember such complaints.

This is what Edgar said:
Universal gave us a free hand of doing what we thougt was rigght for the film in connection with the director, so ther was no one who said 'this is not commercial enough for us" Froes said. "What they did do to make the whole thing go into s more commercial direction was to put in a Bryan Ferry song and have one of our compositions sung by Jon Anderson. That;s what they did to make it more commercial, and to be honest, we are not totally etnhusiastic about that.
WHy i bought the album is because i always thought the TD soundtrack was screaming for a more orchestral release and now ther is one!

Thanks for the info,
it almost sounds TD had nothing with Jon Anderson, a bit like someone else decided for JA to sing over a finished TD track.
That explains why I never saw anything in print about a TD-JA "collaboration"
Still weird, an OST has to match and enhance the movie mood, a supporting role not driving the film production around some commercial tracks.
I can think of only one movie made around existing music: Pink Floyd The Wall.
Maybe Ridley Scott was not happy with the TD score for Legend and we ended up with another anomaly - 2 OST's

it's the other way around, at a pre screening of the film they were dissatisfied with the score from Jerry Goldsmith (not commercial enough) and contracted td.
I know two other movies made around existing music: Disney's Fantasia and Fantasia 2000

The plot thickens then, Ridley Scott worked with Jerry Goldsmith years before Legend on Alien so he knew what to expect.
Asking a (mainly) Classical Composer/Conductor for a score then rejecting it for being non commercial enough sounds bizarre, how commercial can a classical score sound.
Still, I liked Legend and the TD soundtrack, as I said the best they ever did in my books.

I mean the time a film composer usually gets to score a movie. Three weeks is little time, two months is really not.

Well, he surely didn't like TD well enough to continue working with them. I would have loved to see what TD could have done with Someone To Watch Over Me instead of Michael Kamen in 1987. And even Black Rain in 1989 had been very interesting with a TD score, though I'm pretty sure it wouldn't had been better than the Hans Zimmer score we got.

But he did get a taste for EM.
after that he collaborated with Vangelis on Bladerunner.
On the set of bladerunner the music of Vangelis was played aloud.
