I don't have much of an experience with bootlegs, and I suppose that they are acceptable by those standards.
Now we know some ER reissues include music direct from the TT which you find to be poor quality .
would have liked to hear your reaction if you bought the Zeit / Atem reissues and listened to the "bonus live" CD's without knowing where they came from
Yesterday I entered in iTunes the 2nd TT spindle, TT 33-57, just skipping thorough they sound 1-3, mostly 2, with a couple of good exceptions for the Sydney & Melbourne 1982 FM broadcasts, in a few days I'll know better.

Shit happens. Looks like there's not much to feast on in the end.

Hm...
As for my (maybe small) experience, the TT's sound (much) better than most Bootlegs I ever heard; the usual standard with bootlegs like I know them is that You can count Yourself lucky if:
- You can percieve everything that has been played at all
- Don't have some over-enthusiastic fans screaming stupid exclamations (and mostly at the really interesting spots that You would have loved to listened to so dearly - instead You hear "RITCHIIIEEE -GIVE US EVERYTHING!!!" ...or Edgar...or Klaus...or whoever... )
- Don't have distortion, tape warble, panorama imbalances, sudden changes of volume every 30 seconds...
...and so on.
When I was ten years younger, I used to force myself through many bootlegs, just because I was so interested in what those guys played, and didn't care much for the sound.
These days, I‘m not so eager about that, but from time to time I have fun having a few beers and listening to those strange recordings again...
But I think the TTs are much (much) better than those bootlegs. But clearly they are NO audiophile recordings - and how could that be possible?
Even if many of them seem to be from better sources than 70ies cassette recorders with built in cheap microphones or something, even sondboard recordings or radio/TV shows often are imbalanced, or over compressed, or not mixed from an artistic point of view etc.
Finally, if You didn't like the experience of listening to the first 8 TTs, I don't see much sense in considering the rest...
One of my experiences though is that I can get in the mood...or get used to the "sound world" of a bad recording. The ears can kind of 'filter' the music, and the imagination can add what is covered by sonic mudd. Of course, one needs quite a bit of goodwil for that...

Exactly what I was thinking after reading your and phaedra's comments. Perhaps bootlegs are just not for me. Still, I'd give a try to those that got 5 points in the overview above.

Each live recording has it's own character, just like the halls' acoustics and the guy coughing next to you plus the added issues of the recording equipment and it's location on someone's lap, bag or pocket...
Even a radio broadcast will not guarantee commercial grade CD quality as they are meant to be short lived, a common contract for radio broadcast would be like played 2 times over 2 years then the tape destroyed.
For those things the miking arrangements would be minimal often with just 2 microphones.
Those graded 5 are likely to be DAT/MD transfers from the mixer and would be later than Artemi's era of interest.
Still, now that it started just as well complete this little exercise.

I thought I saw at least one or two 5's from the golden era. Must check it again...
