According to the book Bernard Sumner - Confusion, Klaus Schulze has played at the legendary Hacienda in Manchester.

When was this?

Was anyone here present?

He did indeed play the hacienda.
Can't remember exactly when it was but it must have been around 1980/1. I didn't go despite a great deal of effort on my part, because in an extremely stupid move tickets were only on sale to Hacienda members. WTF !!!!! It is something that angered me greatly at the time, and still does to this day.
I sent a letter to KDM at the time asking why he was playing at a private members club, which also had an 18 year age restriction. Didn't get a reply.
I for one was cheering loudly when the hacienda went under. Twisted Evil

Not that i'm bitter you understand Wink

Yes as redphil says, he did definitely play there.

I remember going to the club and asked if I could buy a ticket but was turned down as I wasn't a club member.

The book is written by David Nolan and is called "Bernard Sumner - Confusion: New Order, Electronic and Joy Division against the world". Very interesting book. Available from most good book stores, like play.com for instance.

I didn't know The Hacienda was a private club like that.

I appear to be nearly 3 years too late for this ancient thread. Funnily enough I was just posting on another music forum about KS and told my tale of how I saw him at the Hacienda in 1983.... so I may as well tell it here if there's anybody still interested.
He came on and only did 2 numbers. I was a bit underwhelmed with it. (It was nearly 30 years ago so forgive vagueness). He can be a bit drifty and unfocussed as you know.
However - he came back on for an encore and what he did for that was absolutely stellar. It was an all-out rhythmic delight with all the stops fully pulled out. Pulsing electronics in a trance dream-state. A diamond-encrusted mantra.
I wish i knew what it is was called - whether it was improvised or what. But... i guess i will never know but i do remember being totally blown away by it.
Anyway - forgive me busting in on your nice looking forum.

I have been into electronic music since the 70s and those far-off days of early Kraftwerk and T Dream. Later on it was Can and all the other german greats.

Today I was record shopping and found a nice mint copy of Cyborg by KS which is what prompted my memory of the Hacienda.
Keep the faith!
