A top 25 would be easier.
For a top 10 might as well set the Golden Era span between 1975-1985.
My tastes lean more on the melodic, choral work with clean sequences.
The works are selected year rather than rank and encapsulate elements from other "classics" by the same Musicians or solo projects:
Ash Ra Tempel-New Age Of Earth 1976
Possibly the first time the term "New age" was used on record, I wish MG continued this style for a while.
Far East Family Band-Parallel World 1976
One of the earliest example of East & West fusion.
Klaus Schulze-Mirage 1977
A masterpiece, even Froese admitted liking it a lot having no idea how KS did it.
Klaus Schulze-Body Love 1977
If I was to select a single KS track only it would be Blanche, the rest brings together all the KS compositional elements around that time.
Tangerine Dream-Encore 1977
The magnetic North of EM inspiring many even today.
Kraftwerk-Trans Europe Express 1977
A landmark setting the scene for techno pop.
Jean Michel Jarre-Equinoxe 1978
Superb followup to the great and well known Oxygene.
Isao Tomita-Daphnes et Chloe 1979
One of the best EM rendition of classical works.
Kitaro-From The Full Moon Story~Daichi 1979
Perfect blend of acoustic instruments, percussion, electronics, melody, East meets West.
Neuronium-Chromium Echoes 1982
I think this one defined Neuronium, Prelude is the most beautiful yet saddest space ballad I ever heard, perfect soundtrack to a cosmic cataclysm.
Vangelis-Antarctica 1983
Breathless and majestic score, leaning on symphonic but more expressive on the 24 track bootleg with the extra audio taken from the DVD.

Sure, it comes from a late 70's Froese interview from a clipping I have in my storage files, I was surprised too very unusual comment, the interviewer stated he liked the "new" Mirage album, and then Froese responded as I quoted, will go through my old magazines and stuff.

I have to find that interview as it was a unique statement never repeated again.
I don't don't think there was that much rivalry between these talents, it was created by the media forever comparing them when they really had different approaches to music using similar instruments
A guy from Uk gave me hundreds of music mags he had in boxes in the late 80's, took me about a year to go through the lot and select/photocopy bits.
I'll start digging tomorrow, there are a few others I am interested in like Vimal, Bocquet and Zanov.

Sparks - Number One In Heaven (1979) - Sparks and Giorgio Moroder creating the most electronic electronica ever, a brilliant album all round
Yellow Magic Orchestra - Yello Magic Orchestra (1978) - Japan's finest with their debut - a proper electronic outfit who could perform without their backs to the audience and make the experience an uplifting one
