These news really do hit me hard this morning. I had just visited Jon's website a few days ago after I read somehwere that he had to cancel a show in Germany, and found a statement there would be no reason to worry, etc.
To say that he was one of my favorite musicians doesn't really do justice to what his music and playing means to me - actually, he even used to appear in my dreams from time to time. And one day I even realized that (on the few occasions) when I talked in English,I imitated his way to speak. For years I hoped to be able to attend one of his classical concerts - now it will never happen. I'm really, really sad about this...

And yes - may her rest in peace. Really...

It is really sad to hear the loss of Jon Lord, one of the really great musicians and personalities in music. He was one of the main reason I am into music today. May he rest in piece.

I am lucky to be allowed to play CDs where I work and over the past several months we played a lot of Deep Purple. Surprisingly some of the workers never heard their music before. Now, they ask to play them next.
At 59 I grew up listening to them from the beginning to the end of Deep Purple.
As sad as it is to say, I'm afraid we're going to see a lot more of our favorite musicians playing music in the clouds.

Nice to read that...

I think he was the first keyboardist I was aware of when I first got into music. He has certainly inspired me as I try to be a musician.
Astonishing talent and nice guy too, the planet is truly a poorer place this week for sure.

True. This amazing keyboard player will now rejoined with the best guitarist ever to grace Deep Purple, Tommy Bolin.
His departure does make me sad, although I haven' listened to a lot of his music recently. Only yesterday I learned that my favourite drummer (Jaki Liebezeit) is 73 years old. It's quite frightening to realize that many of the musicians that has made my life more worthwhile are only immortal for a limited time.

I have to disagree. They are immortalized through their work. This is the privilege artists have.
And this is something that makes their departing a bit easier to cope with: Even when they are gone, they will still be around. Just put on a record.

Their music lives on, that's right. But I do think it is sad once their production of music stop. And for immortality, I can't really relate to music if it hasn't been made in the lifetime of people I've met.

True Stephen, although I don't believe in any afterlife (or I say I don't, because I honestly don't know what to believe), their music will live on and will give many people energy, comfort and pleasure.
A good way to be remembered.
