Steve Smith and the Tylas Cyndrome
EM News Poster: Betsythehorse - Date: Wed Apr 25, 2018 2:20 pm
"Evolution #8" is a freshly squeezed experiment that requires tasting. Lemon, or Orange flavoured... I'm not exactly sure. Maybe it's going just a little too boldly?

But, you can check it out here...

... then let me know. Cool

Regards
Alan

Moby gear sale
EM News Poster: Polysix - Date: Tue Apr 24, 2018 10:03 pm
Moby is selling over 100 synths and pieces of studio gear from across his career for charity. The electronic music veteran is partnering with online gear store Reverb to launch his own store at the site, with all proceeds going to anti-cruelty charity Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine.

“This is the equipment I’ve used to make all my records,” Moby said in a press release. “I have so much equipment and almost all of it has profound sentimental value to me, including synthesizers I started using in the 80’s. But rather than keep it all in storage, I want to sell it for a good cause.”

Among the items being sold off are the Roland Jupiter-6 (previously owned by Joey Beltram) used on “almost every early techno record” made by Moby and a 1980s Ibanez guitar that he used as his primary live guitar from 1984 to 1998 and recorded his 1999 album Play with.

Another key item up for sale is the Yamaha SY22 vector synth used to write the first Moby single, 1991’s ‘Go’. The track is a rework of ‘Laura Palmer’s Theme’ from Twin Peaks, and Moby used the synth to replay the theme. He’s also selling a custom Serge Modular, the Roland Juno-106 used on ‘Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad?’, a Harmony Lap Steel Hawaiian-style slide guitar and even two sombreros worn by Moby and The Flaming Lips’ Wayne Coyne in the music video for ‘The Perfect Life’.

Moby’s Reverb store opens on April 26 (Thursday). Moby isn’t the first notable musician to use Reverb to sell off unwanted studio gear – last year, Nine Inch Nails collaborator Alessandro Cortini used the site to sell rare items such as an EMS Synthi AKS Synthesizer.

syndae - episode 431
EM News Poster: treibklang - Date: Fri Apr 20, 2018 8:00 pm
Two weeks ago we still had snow, now it's quite over 30C at our place. Definitely a time to slow down and have the music at a not too high pace. And we are visiting the earlier era of electronic music, at least in style and feeling, as the music of course is young and recently released. While you will have a relaxed time with syndae, it is still very intense and thrilling to listen to. Well, nature greens up and blinds go down for the sun. Best time to lean back and listen carefully to tracks by TaboTago (Kymatica), Loomeer (Anesthetic 9-16), Michael Hodges (Explorations), Yves Potin (Life - Unfolding), TFSL (III).

The Berlin Code - The Story of TaboTago

TaboTago are the latest incarnation in a thrilling lineage in the history of music. Their inspirational roots can be traced back almost exactly half a century ago, to the aftermath of the German "generation 68".

According to TaboTago, the golden era of Krautrock starts right after this early phase of exploration. Their performances are a tribute to Edgar Froese and his brainchild Tangerine Dream, jointly responsible for one of the most influential and seminal branches of the genre: The Berlin School, with its floating sequencers, out-of-this-world ambiances and visionary sound worlds. To them, the years between the monolithic release „Zeit“ in 1972 and the controversial fusion experiment „Cyclone“ towards the end of the decade still provide plenty of inspiration.

Towards New Horizons
Before finally joining forces, the trio has already been in touch for many years. After Wöstheinrich's move to Berlin, it is therefore merely a question of time, before they start making music together. Gradually, TaboTago peals itself off various exploratory formations with changing line-ups: Tangram Project is one of them, SYNTHASIS another. And then, there are the Kreuzberger Polyphonie Sessions, an event series and a meeting point for a rotating cast of renowned musicians. It will take until Froese's passing, however, before these collaborations materialise into a band. The precise reason for founding TaboTago is simple: Although Froese has provided for the continuation of Tangerine Dream with a new line-up under the auspices of the talented Thorsten Quaeschning, there i...
